Peggy Jean (Horn) Cantrell, 81, of Alexandria and Anderson, Indiana and Sugarcreek Township, Ohio departed this life on August 28, 2022 at Hospice of Dayton following an extended illness.
Peggy was born on March 17, 1941 in Paynesville, West Virginia to Johnie and Floy (Wagner) Horn. She was one of 11 children raised on Bradshaw Mountain and was very close to all of her brothers and sisters. Having a close-knit family prepared her for life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She attended school on Bradshaw Mountain and Iaeger, West Virginia, until she met the love of her life, Otis L. Cantrell, to whom she married on August 7, 1956 in Lebanon, Virginia. They remained together until his passing on February 19, 2019. Together, they traveled the world as a military family for the United States Air Force serving their country for over 20 years. She became a Cosmetologist for the Revlon Corporation primarily supporting military Base Exchanges wherever they lived. She retired from Revlon and focused her efforts on being a grandmother of six children and a great-grandmother of seven children.
Survivors include two children, Katrinia (Michael) Trace of Sugarcreek Township, Ohio, and David (Ann) Cantrell of Anderson, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Beverly (Boyer) Cantrell of Chesterfield, Indiana; sister-in-law, Barbara (Robert) White of Lapel, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jenessa (Chris) Regan of Kettering, Ohio, Lt Colonel Christina (Dan) Balocki of Washington Township, Ohio, Tarah (Laurence) Cantrell-Brown of Chicago, Illinois, Regina (John) Kinzfogl of Oakland, California, Otis M. (Kari) Cantrell of Bloomington, Indiana and Megan Cantrell of Anderson, Indiana; seven great-grandchildren Zachary and Skyllar Regan, James, Victoria and Isaac (her best buddy) Balocki, Elise Kinzfogl and Veda Cantrell; sisters, Nadine Hinton and Thelma Rauch of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Brenda (Donnie) Rash, of Morgantown, West Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Otis; her parents; an infant daughter, Geoia Cantrell; a son, Jeffrey Cantrell; siblings, Joyce Lester, Flim Horn, Dorothy Barker, Maxine Horn, Hank Horn, Wayne Horn and Jackie Horn.
Visitation and funeral will be held on September 2, 2022 at Rozelle-Johnson, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, Indiana 46012. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jamie Estep of Elkins, West Virginia, will be officiating. Burial will take place in Parkview Cemetery in Alexandria, Indiana.
Memorial contributions will be accepted in Peggy’s name to Hospice of Dayton or you may contribute to a charity of your choice in Peggy’s name.
