John Lawrence Daly, Esq., 94, of Framingham, formerly of Cochituate, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Natick on January 4, 1928, the son of the late Timothy J. Daly and Florence E. (Foster) Daly.
John is survived by his wife Catherine M. (Heavey) Daly of Framingham. He was the father of John Daly, Jr. Esq. and his wife Beth Nichols of Framingham, Robert Daly and his wife Peggy of Ashland, Dr. Jay Daly and his wife Lisa of Wrentham, Dr. Christopher Daly of Framingham, RoseAnna (Daly) McNay and her husband James of Framingham and Dianna (Daly) Betit and her husband The Rev. John of Westport, CT. He was the grandfather of Colleen, Patrick, Meredith, Bridget, Jessica, John, Erin, Samuel, Sophia and Catherine, brother of Barbara Dickson of Framingham, Michael Daly and his wife Susan of Grafton, Deborah Daly of Wayland and the late Patricia Barry and Paul Daly. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John had been a resident of Framingham for 56 years and spent his formative years in the Cochituate Village area of Wayland. He graduated from Wayland High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Northeastern University. In 1958, he received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia Law School with honors, and was awarded the Order of the Coif. He had a long and distinguished career in law as a partner at the Boston firm of Sherburne, Powers, and Needham and thereafter, the firm of Holland and Knight.
John served his country with honor, both in the United States Navy as a Seaman second class during World War II, and with the United States Army in the early 1950’s as a Russian interpreter, stationed in Germany.
John, along with his wife of 70 years, Kitty, were totally devoted to their children and grandchildren. John was also an avid tennis player and a longtime member of the Sudbury River Tennis Club of Framingham, where he served on the Board of Directors and as president. He was also a doubles champion at the club.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt. 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 11:00 am, family and friends are invited to go directly to the Martha Mary Chapel, 72 Wayside Inn Road, Sudbury for John’s funeral service. Interment will be private.
