Joan M. (Cottier) Kyle, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 85 years of age.
Joan was born in Boston on October 23, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph "Hobba" Cottier and Frances (Gallagher) Cottier. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1954. Joan furthered her education at the age of 40 and received her Associates Degree in Teaching from Wheelock College. Joan worked as a Teacher for the Head Start Program in Charlestown for many years and also worked as a Payroll Clerk in the Payroll Department at Massachusetts General Hospital for several years.
Family was paramount to Joan in her life while growing up in Charlestown with her parents and siblings and then becoming a wife and mother to her own family and instilling the proud qualities of growing up in Charlestown to her 7 children. She enjoyed all the special moments she shared with her husband and children throughout her life and especially the love she shared and how proud she was of each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the family moments together especially while decorating during the holiday season. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed gardening, bowling, reading and sitting out on her "Dunstable Beach". She was a member and Past President of Court St. Jude # 1 and member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Joan is the beloved wife of the late Robert P. Kyle. She is the devoted mother of Susan Schievink and her late husband Bobby, Stephen Kyle and his wife Mary, Linda Celata, Pam Coppinger and her husband Mickey, Edward Kyle and his wife Cathleen, Robert P. Kyle Jr. and his wife Kimberly and the late Matthew Kyle and his late wife Helena. She is the loving Nana Tootsie to 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Geraldine Munden and the late Carol Mahoney, Eddie Cottier, Joseph Cottier and John Cottier. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
