On Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, our mother, Gloria “Gigi” (Merrick) Mottram passed away after a brave battle with Cancer. She was a fighter until the end and was one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth. Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Our mother was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
She was born in Hampstead, NH in 1949 and Gigi spent most of her life in Lawrence, MA. She spent the last few years living at Parkhurst Place in Amherst, NH among many friends who adored her. She worked at Northeast Arc for over 20 years and enjoyed working for her boss, Marie McCarthy. Gloria attended NECCO where she got her degree for American Sign Language.
Gigi was a selfless person, and always the first person who offered help to others. Her daughters and her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and anyone who crosses them after she is gone, she promises to haunt if she could. So watch out! She loved spending time with her family, daily walks, bird watching, road trips, Boston Red Sox (no matter how bad they were!), gardening, fishing, music, playing online games, yard saling, and her drives to Maine to see the Nubble Lighthouse.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Lester & Lea (Houston) Merrick, her brothers, James Merrick and Lester Merrick and her sisters Betty Ann Merrick and Eunice Ryzepka.
She is survived by her daughters Brenda Lee (Mottram) Slosek and her husband, Tundra, and Sherry Marie (Mottram) Martinez and her partner, Shane. Her brother, Ronald Merrick and his wife, Marion, whom she loved very much. She is also sorely missed by her five grandchildren Erin Serverius and her partner, Henry Kuck, Monica Conalty, Haylee Mottram, Kelsee Mottram, and Stephen Martinez. She also had a special bond with her niece, Barbara Morrison and her husband Justin. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gloria’s name to NH Audubon- McLane Center in Concord, NH at https://www.nhaudubon.org/donate/make-a-donation/ as this organization was important to her. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
