Obituary

Joan(ie) M. Fevold, 82 of Ojai, CA passed away on August 20, 2022 in her home. Because she believed and accepted Jesus Christ as her saviour when 21 years old, we knew she flew to her forever home.

Joan was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to George Washington Sally and Dolly Parr McGregor on June 24, 1940. She went to Hermantown High School and graduated in 1958. Her yearbook said Joan M. Sally - "A charming combination of poise and style." Her clubs were HI-C and Team Cheerleader and Home Coming Attendant. She wrote - "Good luck to me" in her yearbook. She had a great sense of humor. One classmate wrote "Joan Sally is a top model who has made neat looks an essential in all fashions." She had hoped to open a dress shop she wrote in her yearbook. She called herself a clothes horse and would laugh. She went on to be a mother of three, had all her children a year apart and called us her stair steps, she was a homekeeper and volunteer at church and led many prayer group and bible studies. She was a giver and helped the homeless shelters, Food for the Hungry, Toys 4 Tots and would hostess or model when asked for charities.

Joan(ie) is survived by her daughter Tanya LaPrelle of Ojai, CA and her son Bradley Fevold. She was the last surviving child of her family. She was preceded in death by Elizabeth, Fay, John, Dotsi and Laura Bell. Her husband Dean Fevold was the love of her life. They were married for 51 years and Dean died in 2009 in Arizona where they had retired. She moved back to CA after his death. She had her first born son, Dean Scott precede her in death in 1981. He was 21 years old and had cancer and fought a good fight. Her faith in God never wavered even through the loss and struggle.

She leaves behind son-in-law, Tim LaPrelle, grandson Dallas Scott LaPrelle, his wife Allison and two great grandchildren who are Isabella and Olliver Dallas. She leaves behind grandson Dakotah Lee LaPrelle also.

She leaves behind daughter-in-law, Teresa Fevold, a granddaughter Jandrea, her husband Cole and their son, Casen Glenn.

Joan was a kind, generous and sweet lady. She had a wonderful life with her husband and was also eccentric. She loved to decorate houses and move so she could decorate again. Dean spoiled her and she loved travel with him. She loved her grandchildren so much. Her favorite color was red, her favorite dinner was shrimp and pasta. Her favorite music was gospel, especially Elvis gospel and she loved music shows like PBS Celtic Thunder. She loved to dance. She saw Bill Haley live and told me how they danced to Rock Around The Clock. I loved her stories from her era. She always introduced herself as Joan but after her husband died she said Joanie now as that was what he called her.

She developed early onset Alzheimer's disease and we saw her personality change. She was still kind to everyone but lost her ability to walk or talk in the last years. We realized she was not safe and she came home to finish her last months safely and comfortable. We had an angel named Jennie find us Mission Hospice and they blessed us in her last year. What a wonderful group of Doctors, Nurses, Social Worker, and loving professional people. We are eternally thankful for their help and support.

We discussed her life when she was well and she said she wanted to be buried in a white dress. She wanted the song "I'll Fly Away" played. She wanted people to know God loved them and they could have eternity with HIM. She passed out gospel tracts all her life and would pray with anyone at anytime. Many times in her car or a parking lot. She was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. She was fearless in sharing about her faith.

Mom, we are proud of you. You were so strong and the disease took much from us; it was our privilege to call you Mom, Grandma and friend. I will see you again and we carry on for your legacy. Since I was born on your birthday, I will miss you even more.

Private graveside services were held at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park where Pastor Neal Benson of Coastline Bible Church Ventura officiated. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
