Louis A. Pelchat, 97

Louis A. Pelchat, age 97, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Monday, August 22, 2022 at The Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Alice E. (Ornellas) Pelchat, to whom he was wed for sixty-four years at the time of her death on January 3, 2019.
Born in Central Fall, RI on July 3, 1925, he was a loving son of the late Hilaire J. and Mary Jane (Dupuis) Pelchat.
Louie grew up in Norton and was a graduate of the Bristol County Agricultural School in Dighton. Prior to retiring, Mr. Pelchat had worked as an equipment operator, for over thirty years, at the Dorrance Excavation Company in Norton.
A communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton, when younger he was also a member of the Holy Name Society. His love for family and friends was unconditional and along with his late “Bride” Alice enjoyed gardening, meticulously maintaining their home in Norton, taking trips, cruises and playing Bingo. Louie was a great teacher and mentor to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted children: Theresa M. Nicholas of Ellington, CT and Matthew L. Pelchat and his wife Gina of Rhoadesville, Virginia. He was the cherished grandfather of Sean Doyle, Melissa Pelchat, Taylor Nicholas, Paul Nicholas, III and the great grandfather of Carter Doyle, Jakob Stanley and Ford Nicholas. He was the dear brother of the late Brother Eli Pelchat, C.S.C., H. Victor Pelchat, Eloi Pelchat, Philibert Pelchat, Lea Eames and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 28th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
His funeral will begin on Monday, August 29th at 10:00 A.M. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
