We are saddened to announce the loss of our father, John J. Ward Jr. on August 20, 2022. While most called him “Jack”, he will always be known as the husband of the late Millie Ward.
Dad was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1929, to John Sr. and Elizabeth Ward in Watertown Mass.
It was in Watertown that fate would introduce him to Millie at a high school football game. In 1960, they were married and were inseparable until Millie’s passing in November 2021. She was Dad’s soulmate, and he spent the last few months looking for her and waiting to be reunited with his bride.
In 1951, along with countless other young men, Dad went to Korea. War and conflict are never easy, but because Dad was a veteran, he was able to be the first in his family to go to college. He was a proud graduate of Northeastern University, class of 1961. Dad embarked on a long career as an accountant, working at various firms in Framingham and Franklin.
1967 began a new chapter, Dad and Mom packed up the Rambler, stuffed with household belongings and their two kids and settled in Bellingham. Dad was active in the Clara Macy PTA, scouts, and various church groups. In all his years, Dad was always friendly and never held a grudge.
Jack is survived by his sons, John J. Ward III, his caregiver, Steve of Scranton PA, and adopted son Robert Taylor, Norton.
Our family would like to express our thanks to Maureen Smith, Dad’s CNA, Milford Regional Hospital for their compassionate care for Dad, and Lisa Loo, Bellingham Council on Aging.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Saturday August 27th, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. at 10 am.
