Charlie Monk, 91, of Nashville passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Berrien Nursing Center in Nashville. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2022, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. R. T. Castleberry officiating. Mr. Monk will be laid to rest at First Baptist Church of Ty Ty Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 21, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Javier Castillo, Brian Cooper, James Faiola, Duane Cook and Jerry Watson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Powell, Jerry Sutton, Jimmy Harris, Ben Barrentine, Mike Shaw, Wyman Temples, Bob McGovern and Reggie Spivey.
Born March 25, 1931, in Brooks County, Mr. Monk was the son of the late Charlie Jefferson Monk and Susie Elizabeth Morrell Monk. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Grimes Monk; his step-son, Arie Monk, Jr.; and four sisters. Before retiring, he worked for Leslie Locke and in the Water Department for the City of Tifton. He was a member of Faith Chapel in Nashville and he served six years in the United States Army.
Mr. Monk is survived by his wife, Dorothy Watson Monk of Nashville; two sons, Randall Monk and his wife Lori of Cochran and Ray Monk of Fitzgerald and his special friend, Blenda Corbitt; one daughter, Tammy and Nicolas Gomez of Tifton; two step-daughters, Wanda Fannon and Doris Samples and her husband Ronald, all of Nashville; two brothers, and one sister-in-law Arie and Eleanor Monk of Blackshear and Alex Frazier of Colorado; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Angel Hobbs, Joshua and Serena Monk, Kayla Monk and Charles Monk; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Monk and Mallory Monk.
