On Tuesday, August 16, 2022 the soul of Susan Jane Hevey, severed the earthly bonds and returned to her Heavenly Father. The beloved bride of Michael J. Hevey, they together celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary a week earlier but had been best friends and sweethearts for over 50 years. Their love for each other produced their two amazing sons, Ben and Adam.
Sue was born March 29, 1953 to Claire A. (Duval) Carter and Dr. Bernard F. Carter in New Bedford. She is survived by her husband, sons, mother, and siblings, Mark Carter of New Bedford, Ann DaRosa of Taunton, Meg Aurelio, and Ned Carter of Fairhaven.
After graduating from Fairhaven High School, a gifted and graceful majorette, Sue furthered her education, earning a license as a Practical Nurse. She started her career at St. Luke’s Hospital. Over the years, she later worked in the medical office of Gary Grosart M.D. and William Hunt M.D. She became a visiting nurse and ended her medical career in an adult day care setting.
Besides her title as nurse, Sue wore many hats. Wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, caregiver, friend, house painter, interior decorator, landscaper, florist, grass mower, furniture mover, snow shoveler, veterinarian, gardener, leaf raker or whatever it needed to be. Her best friends, however, called her Grammy. Cameron, Sawyer, Nolan, Tessie and Ella were her most cherished treasures. She would lovingly pitch balls, play baby and attend tea parties at a moment’s notice.
Sue loved traveling and always had an adventure planned when the boys were young. In later years, Sue and Mike were fortunate to knock off many bucket list items, but the list is far from complete. She will be so missed by all, especially the guy who could not get enough of her and soft, furry Zoe.
Sue’s family would like to thank all those who cared for Sue during her final days. Their concern and compassion are so appreciated.
Sue’s visitation will be held on Thursday August 25th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday August 26th at 12 Noon at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven, followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery.
