Obituary

Fanny Josephine Johnson unexpectedly passed away on August 13, 2022.

Fanny was born on October 14, 1961 in Boston, MA to William A. Johnson, senior of Bradford, MA and the late Josephine A. Johnson. Fanny resided in South Boston prior to her death. Fanny and her siblings attended Berea Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Dorchester, MA. Fanny was educated in the Boston Public Schools and a graduate of Boston Technical High School. She then went on and obtained an associates degree in early childhood education.

Fanny briefly lived in North Carolina and later settled in Philadelphia, PA and purchased a single family home and subsequently a condominium and resided in Darby, Pennsylvania for 20 years. She was employed by the state of Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Office. She relocated to the Boston area to assist with the care of her beloved mother.

Fanny believed in helping the underserved and less fortunate. Fanny was an active member in her community and served on various community boards. She was the go to resource person in the community. Fanny was the author of several published short stories. She was employed as an assistant teacher for the Catholic Church affiliated with St. Monica’s Church of South Boston and volunteered 7 days a week in the food pantry. The Nuns at St. Monica called Fanny Gigi. She was an extremely religious person and read the Bible daily and oftentimes read the Bible cover to cover yearly. Fanny was an avid reader and well read on many subjects. People were impressed with her knowledge and intelligence. Fanny and childhood friend Louise Bowens would read and discuss books at Fanny’s residence. Fanny had a charismatic personality and was a joy to be around. Fanny would always say “put one foot in front of the other”.

Fanny is survived by her father William A. Johnson, senior of Bradford, MA; sister Olivia F. Johnson of East Bridgewater, MA; William A. Johnson, junior of Marietta, CA;sister Valerie A. Johnson-King of Norwood, MA; brother-in-law Decue King of Norwood, MA;adopted sister Bernadette Stinson of Boston, MA. Nephews William T. Johnson of Boston, MA; Jermaine Williams of San Diego, CA, and Solomon King of Norwood, MA. Fanny is preceded in death by mother Josephine A. Johnson and brother Eugene Dodson.
