James Marlyn Herbst Jr., 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed away August, 17, 2022 at his residence.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
He was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania on April 30, 1933, to the late James Marlyn Herbst, Sr. and Theresa Parks Herbst. He served as an Air Traffic Controller in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. He served at Thule AFB in Greenland, Incirlik AB in Turkey, Shaw AFB in South Carolina, and Homestead AFB in Florida. He loved swimming in his younger years and going on cruises with his wife Eileen. He was an avid reader and a lover of fine music.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon H. Sproles and son Eric J. Herbst, both of La Luz, New Mexico and his oldest son Mark Scott Herbst of Highspire, Pennsylvania; stepson and wife, Mike and Naomi Loffreda of Palmyra, Pennsylvania; three nieces, Karen, Kim and Kyra of Hershey PA; two grandsons Eric James Sproles and Bryan David Sproles; and special nephew and caretaker: Lauren & Teresa Fuller of Fitzgerald.
