Jai Singh Khalsa
June 4, 1954 - August 15, 2022
Jai Singh Khalsa passed away on August 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant three year battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Siri Ram Kaur Khalsa. Devoted father of Harishabd Singh Khalsa and his partner Kelly, Kartapurkh Kaur Khalsa and her husband Justin Borg and daughter Amardev Kaur Khalsa. Cherished brother of Jonah, Scott, and Carolyn Koslen and uncle to nieces Chloe, Amanda and Erica. Jai is also survived by his two grandchildren Russell and Florence, whom he loved dearly. He is remembered by his family as a loving, funny, supportive and larger-than-life presence.
Jai Singh grew up in Cleveland Ohio and subsequently acquired his Masters in Architecture Degree from The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) becoming a third generation architect. In 1985, Jai Singh founded Khalsa Design, Inc., an award winning design firm specializing in Residential, Retail, Hospitality and Mixed Use developments. Jai Singh brought together a talented and diverse team of designers and architects looking to build modern, eco-friendly and sustainable buildings. He was an extraordinary mentor and teacher to many inside and outside the firm. He left his imprint on the landscapes of so many cities and towns and is remembered by his colleagues as an amazingly smart, calm, kind, humorous, great man.
Outside of his firm, Jai Singh was a dedicated community builder and philanthropist as well as a leader in the International Sikh Dharma Community. He served as the longest standing Chairman of Khalsa Council of ministers and as a Director on numerous boards within Sikh Dharma. He is remembered for his noble and devoted service to the community as well as his professional contribution in designing buildings, schools, factories and other structures central to the community.
Jai Singh will be missed dearly by his family and the many people whose lives he touched.
