Lawrence W. Bassick, 83

Dateline: Norton, MA

Lawrence “Larry” W. Bassick, age 83, of Norton, passed away, in the presence of his loving family, following a prolonged illness on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Providence VA Medical Center.

Larry was born in Boston, MA on January 25th, 1939. Larry attended Boston Latin School and earned an engineering associate's degree from Northeastern University. He served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery for 6 years.

Larry was dedicated to his work as a civil engineer and loved pointing out projects he worked on to friends and family. He was a crossword puzzle whiz, quick to answer Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, avid New England sports’ fan, and enjoyed all the good food: especially rack of lamb. Larry may be best known for his dad jokes and puns.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary C. (Schornak) Bassick and their children, Megan Bassick of Dedham and Carina Champagne of Attleboro, and his children, Lawrence M. Bassick of Franklin, Linda Bassick of Burlington, VT, Lisa Bassick of Winston Salem, NC, Joseph Bassick of Franklin, Annemarie Bassick of Douglas, and their mother Loretta (Lesha) Bassick of Plainville, his sisters Dorothy Robinson of Medway and Sr. Mary Francis (Elinor) Bassick of Georgetown, and his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Mary P. (Calden) Bassick and Naumann F. Bassick, and his brothers, William and Robert Bassick.

Committal services with military honors, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, August 25th at 2:00 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Those attending are requested to arrive at cemetery by 1:45 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his memory be made to the Providence VA Medical Center, 830 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI 02908.
