Obituary

Harvey Thomas Coker, 87, of Enigma passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Tifton with Bishop Hiram Griffin and Presidence Andy Solomon officiating. A eulogy will be given by Thomas Johns. Mr. Coker will be laid to rest at Cumorah Cemetery in Douglas. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Ronnie Fields, Michael Slater, KC Harrington, Scotty Peters, Joe Denham and Cyril Denham will serve as pallbearers.

Born November 20, 1934, in Berrien County, Mr. Coker was the son of the late Thomas K. Coker and Lona Belle Yawn Coker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jackie Smith Coker; one son, Gary T. Coker; one brother; and three sisters. Before retiring, he worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation and he also retired from the Georgia National Guard and was still a member of the Army Reserves, the CB Reserves and the National Guard and he was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Mr. Coker is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry A. “Tony” and Stacy Coker of Sharpsburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Sandra Coker of Inverness, Florida; two sisters, Nellie Mae Fields of Omega and Peggy Edgeley of Lake City; two granddaughters and their husbands, Jadison and Thomas Johns of Callahan, Florida and Sky and Remington Steedley of Anchorage, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.
