Obituary

WORCESTER__ Sophie E. (Stokowski) Vieraitis, 88, of Worcester died Sunday May 14 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus.

Her husband, Vincent J. Vieraitis died in 1995. Her husband, Joseph Rondeau died many years ago.

She leaves her daughter, Cynthia Laporte and her husband Daniel of East Brookfield; two sisters, Josephine Stokowski of Worcester and Rita Sweeney and her husband Raymond, of Alexandria, Va., two grandchildren, Nicole Laporte and her fiancée, Michael Tucker of Pittsfield; and Michelle Corder and her husband Lawrence of Brimfield. She was also predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, Albert and George Stokowski, Mary Manasas, Frances Linele and Theresa Oswalt. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Peter and Teofilia (Demarski) Stokowski and lived in Worcester many years. She also lived in St. Augustine, Florida and Dennisport.

Mrs. Vieraitis worked as a waitress for many years and retired from the former Worcester County National Bank in 1979. She served with the WAVES for the U.S. Navy during World War II. She graduated from the former Commerce High School. Sophie was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the Worcester Senior Center.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 18, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held Thursday May 18 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
