Othniel J. Francois (86) born on October 2, 1935, in Port-au-Prince, Haïti. Othniel François peacefully fell asleep in the loving arms of his Savior Christ Jesus at his home in Hyde Park, MA surrounded by his family on August 15, 2022. He was the husband of Marie Gislene (Saurel) Francois of Hyde Park, MA. He is preceded by his parents Pastor Joseph François and Mme Marie Therèse Bouzy François, his twin sister Esther François.
Othniel studied and became a lawyer in his home country Haïti. At the age of twenty-one the president of Haiti chose him to be his editor-in-chief. Othniel was the director of the department of culture at the Television Nationale D’Haïti in Port-au-Prince Haïti. He was a radio host both in his country as well as in Boston, MA. He was an instructor of math and electronic at the training school Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC). He worked for one of the high growth technology companies RCA during the 70s-80s that focused on semiconductors, microprocessors. Throughout Othniel’s life he stood up boldly against all injustice without any fear of reprisal that would result in loss of life or possessions.
He was a respected and admired leader for the youth both in Haïti and in the United States. He was a great supporter of the group Carillon des Jeunes and he was a director of the Suprême Angels, both groups were of Horeb Seventh day Adventist church in Haïti and other groups in Boston, MA. He was among the first group of members of the first Franco-Haïtien Seventh day Adventist Church in Boston, MA name Temple Salem. He loved to read, enjoyed music, singing, and the arts. Most of all Othniel J François loved the Lord Christ Jesus with all his heart and was a servant to the end.
In addition to his wife, Othniel is survived by 2 sons Lenel, Othniel Jr.; 2 daughters Marie Myrthza, Dr. Daphne Robert; 12 grandchildren Marie Lenelle Naphtaly, Gregoire Dessaix, Berthoniel, Jerachmeëlle, Vladimir Joseph, Jahleël, Sebastien, Ramssey, Elijah-Luc, Stefan, Jeremie Justin, Eli; 4 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Ulda Fougy (born François) and her children Albert, Wendy, Gwendolyn (nephew and nieces), and countless of cousins worldwide.
Services will be held on August 26, 2022, at Temple Salem Seventh day Adventist church located at 222 Woodrow Avenue Dorchester, MA. Directions to Church Viewing will be at 08:30 AM and service will begin at 09:30 AM. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Avenue Jamaica Plain.
