Brady, Marie T. On Sunday, August 14, 2022, Marie T. (O'Connell) Brady, ninety-one years old, of Medford, MA, and Naples, FL, and formerly of Pocasset, MA, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Medford, she was the daughter of Attorney Philip P.A. and Mary M. (Bowles) O'Connell. Marie was the beloved wife of sixty-seven years of the late Peter Lennox Brady and the mother of Atty. Patricia Doherty (Joseph), Marie Dixon (Michael), Elizabeth Barber (late Donald), Peter Brady, Jr. (Stephanie), and Eleanor O'Leary (Chip), all of Medford, Sheila Marcelonis (Brian) of Westwood, and Phyllis Tansey (Neil) of Nashua, NH.
She is also survived by her eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, her brothers, Atty. Philip (Jean) O'Connell, William (late Una) O'Connell, and her sister, Ann Clare (late James) Kenneally. She is predeceased by her brother, John (late Inez) O'Connell, her sister, Gertrude (late Gigi), and her brothers-in-law, Ned, Benedict (late Jean), George (late Barbara), and William (late Dottie) Brady.
She also leaves several nieces and nephews, her dear friends, John and Anne Devereux of Dunedin, New Zealand, and Ricardo Pena Sanchez of Leon, Mexico.
Mrs. Brady graduated from St. Joseph Grammar School, Girls Catholic High School (1948), and Boston Teachers College (University of Massachusetts, Boston) (1952). While in college, she served in the U.S. Marine Corp Women's Reserve and was Honorably Discharged in 1952.
After graduation, she taught at the Tufts Elementary School, Medford, before retiring to raise her family. In 1969, she received a Masters from Boston University in School Librarianship and in 1972, a C.A.G.S. in Educational Technology. She then worked as a librarian/media specialist at Medford High School and Arlington High School, respectively. From 1983, until her retirement, she was the Director of Library/Media Services for the Arlington Public Schools and was a pioneer in bringing technology into the classroom.
Mrs. Brady was very active in her professional affiliations, including the Principals Center at Harvard University, the MA Association for Educational Media where she was the Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors, the New England Television Teachers Assoc., the Assoc. for Educational Communications and Technology, and the National Federation of Local Cable Producers.
Her civic associations included the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Arlington Zonta Club. In her retirement, she founded the SouthWest Florida UMass/Boston Alumni Club, conducted extensive research on the genealogy of her family, and became an avid golfer. Mrs. Brady was known for her kindness and intelligence and was much loved by all who knew her.
Her Funeral was held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 11:30 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Friday from 4 to 7 PM. Interment was the Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
