Obituary

Michael "Mike" Anthony Tomashunas passed away on the evening of Friday, August 12,2022, due to complications from diabetes. Mike was 72 years old. Mike was born in Worcester, MA on September 4th, 1950, the first son and second child of Gilda and Julius Tomashunas.

Mike graduated from Burncoat Senior High School in 1968. He was a star baseball player and proud of his .650 batting average. Mike attended Becker College and studied accounting after high school and subsequently worked at Thom McCann for several years.

Mike had a fun, quirky sense of humor, a unique way he managed his world, and he always marched to his own tune. Mike always had a kind word for everyone he met. He was a sensitive, caring soul with a quiet demeanor. He enjoyed many hobbies from sports to fishing, cooking, growing plants and flowers, nature walks, a love of animals and a deep passion for music spanning the spectrum from classical to country music.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Gilda and Julius Tomashunas, his brother Robert (Bob) Tomashunas, his nephew Matthew Grady, and several uncles, aunts and first cousins. He leaves behind his sisters, Janet M. Grady and Kathryn A. Rusk, both of Northboro, MA, his brother-in-law, Michael Grady of Northboro, MA, his nieces Jenna Grady of New York City, NY and Nina Rusk of Wilmington, DE, his nephew Peter Grady and his partner Celia Chao of Austin, TX his special aunt Rita Allen, of Worcester, MA, and several first cousins. Michael will be buried at Notre Dame Cemetery, St.Cecilia, following a private service at Nordgren Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike's name can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Education and Advocacy, at diabetes.org.
