Milton H. Herring, 78, of Albany, Georgia, died Friday, August 12, 2022, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, August 15, 2022, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
Mr. Herring was born December 29, 1943, in Ocilla, Georgia, to Opal Rogers Herring and the late Lewis C. Herring. After graduating from Fitzgerald High School, Mr. Herring attended the University of Georgia on a baseball scholarship where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. He served his country honorably in the United States Army as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War. He taught diesel mechanics at Albany Tech and later worked in economic development throughout the state of Georgia and Alabama with the Quick Start program. He was a vice-president for Fred Taylor at Transpower and Interstate National Lease. He also owned and operated Georgia-Florida Cleaning Systems. Mr. Herring never met a stranger and always enjoyed motivating others. He was an avid outdoorsman and woodworker. He also enjoyed reading, trout fishing, traveling in his RV with Emmie, and sharing a good joke. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Emmie Fowler Herring of Albany; his mother, Opal Rogers Herring of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Meredith & Tucker Dixon of Glenwood, Beth & Alan Bethea of Dallas, and Bradley Haymons of Helena; great-grandchildren: Drew Dixon, Ava Dixon, and Carter Dixon; siblings: David & Terrie Hood of Canton, Denise & Mike Silcox of Cordele, and Ricky & Joan Fowler of Leesburg; two nephews: Paul Herring and Chad & Michelle Herring; and a great-niece, Aubrey. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Haymons; and a brother, W.C. Herring.
