Paul A. Fernandes, 75, of New Bedford died Thursday, August 11, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Diane (Lague) Fernandes.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Alice (Gonsalves) Fernandes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Paul served in the United States Army Reserve with the 483rd Engineer Battalion.
He was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design degree.
Paul was formerly employed as a project manager for the New Bedford Housing Authority until his retirement and had also previously worked as a graphic designer for the City of New Bedford Planning Department.
An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of the Reservation Golf Club in Mattapoisett. Paul was also an avid runner, artist and sports fan, especially enjoying the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was known for his quick wit and one liners.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughter, Julie Deterra and her husband Jonathan; his son, John Fernandes; two grandchildren, Luke and Olivia Deterra; and his sister, Elaine Koczera.
His visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 1-5 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford with a funeral service held at 4 PM, during the visitation.
