Thomas W. Griffin passed away peacefully at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center of Burlington in the company of his loving family on Friday, August 5th. He was 70. Born and raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Helen (Stanton) Griffin.
Tom was born and raised in Medford and was always proud of his Medford roots. A member of Medford High School Class of 1971, he was a devoted husband, brother and friend to many. Throughout his youth and high school years he was an active athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball. He made many lifelong friendships in those years which he cherished.
Before his retirement and move to North Reading, Tom worked many productive years in the construction industry as a loyal member of Local 22. Tom and his beloved wife Sandra enjoyed watching sports together, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all sports and of many athletes, following their careers from college, the minor leagues and through to the professional level. Tom was a wonderful member of his large and extended family and will be missed by all who knew him.
The beloved husband of Sandra Stone, Tom was the devoted brother of Susan Desmond and her husband Michael of Hull, Karen LaFayette and her husband Dale of Londonderry, NH and Patricia Griffin of Wakefield, NH. He was the dear brother-in-law of Cathy Stone of Hampton Beach, NH and her late husband Larry, Norman Stone and his wife Linda of Wilmington, John Stone and his wife Stephanie of Malden, Frances Shepherd of Melrose, and Jean Coakley of Somerville. Tom is also survived by many devoted nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. He also leaves his cat, Rocky.
A funeral service in celebration of Thomas’ life will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Tuesday, August 9th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 10 through 11 AM. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
