Worcester – Angeline (Angie, Koula) Garros Liacos Kollios, 95, of Worcester, Massachusetts, beloved mother and family member, died on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Jewish Healthcare Center, surrounded by love and knowing she was loved.
Angie was born to George Garros and Alexandra (Liacos) Garros in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her mother tragically passed away from complications of giving birth leaving her husband George with Vasilios, Evangelos and infant Angie to raise. Angie was adopted by her mother’s brother George Liacos and his wife Alexandria Pantos Liacos. She was raised and loved by them in their home in Rochester, New York, and they remained inseparable for the rest of their lives.
Angie was married for 71 years to her husband Michael who survives her. Surviving her are her son, William, and her daughter Sandra, and several nephews and nieces. Angie is predeceased by her parents, and her brothers Vasilios Garros and Evangelos Garros, her sister and brother-in-law, Hrisanthi Garros Huta and Vasilios Huta, her sister Marianthi Huta, and her sister-in-law Sophia Kollios Barkas and husband Evangelos Barkas, and her sister-in-law Evantheia Kollios Pappas and brother-in-law Theodore Pappas.
Angie grew up and went to school in Rochester, New York and Southbridge, Massachusetts. She worked for more than 10 years at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, Massachusetts in the Human Resource department and in addition to personnel issues she assisted immigrants with issues relating to immigration. She also handled all financial matters in the family business.
In addition to raising her family, she was always willing to help others and be available for others if she could help. At different times in her life, she belonged to the various organizations in the Greek Orthodox Church such as the Maids of Athena, Daughters of Penelope, Ladies Philoptochos Society, taught Sunday School, played the organ in church and sang in the choir. Also, at different times, she loved to help her husband with his gardening projects for flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. Her lifelong fascination with musicals and in the movies was particularly interesting for her. She was kind, thoughtful, caring, non-complaining and would help when she could. Her sweetness was evident throughout and remained with her till the end.
Private funeral services were held on August 3, 2022, at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Worcester, Massachusetts. Burial followed at Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
