John Elsworth Gerstorff, 94, died August 3, 2022 at Countryside Manor after an extended/a brief illness.
John was born January 29, 1928 in Jonesboro, the son of James W. and Mary (Jones) Gerstorff.
He was a livestock buyer for Emge Packing 46 years before retiring. He worked with 4-H and Boy Scouts and enjoyed woodworking. He attended Chesterfield Community Church of God in Chesterfield.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Charline (Moore) Gerstorff of Anderson , whom he married September 3, 1949 in Marion; his two sons, Earl "Andy" (Linda) Gerstorff of Alexandria and Jeffrey D. Gerstorff of Anderson; five siblings, Margaret Moore of Fairmount, Darlene Schindler of Summitville, Judy Rhodes of Fairmount, Betty Merritt of Murrayville, Illinois and Wendell Gerstorff of Summitville; three granddaughters, Gilly (Richard) Beane, Amanda Brown, Mary Elizabeth Gerstorff; five great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, Estella Ricker, James Gerstorff, Edward Gerstorff, Marion Gerstorff and George Gerstorff; and grandson, Jeremiah Gerstorff.
Funeral service will be held at 1p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Dr. Jerry Grubbs officiating. Burial will be in Forestville Cemetery in Summitville.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
