Joseph J. Balaconis, Jr.
Life-long South Boston resident, passed August 2, 2022. Age 66. Joe was a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly, and set a fine example for his nieces and nephews. Joe also had a lifelong love of the sea and was happiest at the helm of a sailboat. He was a long time member of Community Boating on the Charles River where he won many racing events, and is considered one of the finest sailors ever to race on the Charles. Graduated from New York Maritime as a deck officer shipping for many years. As a college sailor he was an All-American with his plaque enshrined at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. Joe loved his family and friends and he was much loved in return. Beloved son of Elizabeth (Betty) Chase Balaconis and the late Joseph J Balaconis. Dear brother of Margaret Balaconis and husband Greg Holmberg, George Balaconis and wife Mary, CMDR Navy (Retired) Roy Balaconis and wife Sue, the late John Balaconis, Nan Nazarian and husband Mark, and Doris Rezza. Proud Uncle to Anika Balaconis, Lt. Col AF John Balaconis, Patrick Balaconis, Katie Balaconis, Elizabeth Balaconis, Zoe Balaconis, Lt. John Rezza and Nicole Rezza. Great Uncle to Shea, Nelle and Liam. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours in St. Peter Lithuanian Church, 75 Flaherty Way, South Boston, Saturday from 9:30-11:00A.M. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11A.M. Interment services will be private.
