Catherine E. Golden, age 99, of Mansfield, formerly of Walpole, passed away comfortably at home, surrounded by the care and love of her treasured family on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.
Born in Boston, MA on May 24, 1923, she was a loving daughter of the late Stephen F. and Ida S. (Smith) Golden.
Catherine grew up and was educated in Cambridge. Prior to retiring, she had worked in the Payroll Department at Bird & Son in Walpole for twenty years and was previously employed at the Otis Elevator Company in Boston.
A resident of Mansfield for the past fifteen years, she had formerly made her home in Walpole for many years. While residing in Mansfield, she was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a prior longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole.
Catherine’s dear family was truly the essence of her life. For many years, she was a devoted caregiver to her late mother Ida and following the death of her sister Mildred in 1977, became a second mother to her seven nieces and two nephews.
Along with her cherished nieces, Catherine enjoyed worldwide traveling and when younger, talentedly built her nieces multi-room dollhouses and furniture. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, was well know for her “famous apple pie”, her “green thumb” for gardening and was an avid New England sports fan, the Boston Celtics being her favorite team to cheer on.
She was pre-deceased by her siblings and is also survived by several generations of loving nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, August 8th at 11:30 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, donations in Catherine’s memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
