Jerry W. Holbert, 63, of Derry, NH, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in Derry Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Derry, NH. He was born in Long Branch, NJ on November 9, 1958, a son of William and Lillian (Dotson) Holbert.
Jerry was a talented artist who got his start working for Disney as an animator before beginning his career of 32 years as the political cartoonist for The Boston Herald. He was the recipient of the National Cartoonist Society's Editorial Cartoon Award in the year 2000 and was syndicated by GoComics. Jerry's quiet and calming presence made everyone around him feel seen and heard, and his unwavering love and devotion to his family was his life's joy and purpose. All who knew him could attest to his kindness, his resilience, and his clever sense of humor. Jerry was a lover of music, particularly jazz, and his curated collection of albums and mix cds would go on to influence his children to pursue their own musical passions and endeavors. He also enjoyed movies, art, comics, animation, coffee, and good barbeque, and especially loved sharing these with his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Holbert; daughter, Kara Holbert; son, Jeremy Holbert; two brothers, Rick Holbert and Larry Holbert as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 5th from 11:00am to 12:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Funeral services will follow at 12:30pm in the funeral home. Mask usage in the funeral home is at the discretion of the attendee. The burial will be at 1:30pm in Forest Hill Cemetery, E.
