Obituary

Elaine M. (Sisson) Amiro of New Bedford left us Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 84. She was the wife of the late Donald Amiro and daughter of the late Mercedes (Frates) and Thomas Sisson.

Born in Little Compton, Rhode Island, she had lived in North Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Wareham, New Mexico, and New Bedford. After graduating from Dartmouth High School and Bridgewater State Teacher's College, she taught school in Fairhaven, on a Navajo Reservation in New Mexico, and in New Bedford until her retirement.

Elaine's interesting life was filled with many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed traveling to Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Her love of animals led to her having many unusual pets including ocelots, bobcats and iguanas including her favorite iguana, Enchilada. Elaine spent many hours working on her sewing machines, making quilts, clothes, curtains and prize-winning Halloween costumes. Other hobbies included knitting and cooking and she enjoyed making exotic dinners for her family and friends.

Art and music were another important part of Elaine's life. She had an extensive record collection and enjoyed attending concerts, which kept her dancing into her 80's. She enjoyed oil painting at the senior center and had also experimented with block printing and wood carving.

Elaine's many interests got her involved in many things. As a sports fan, she enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. The Silva Mind Control Method became fascinating to her and was used throughout her life. Many happy hours were spent with her many friends from Liberty Place Club and Heritage House. The beauty of flowers became irresistible to her with her many gardens.

She is survived by her three children, Katherine Roberts, Donald Levi, and John Amiro; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Beryl Curtis and Donna Pastie.

Her visiting hours will be held Friday, August 5, 2022 from 4-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday at 5:30 PM, during the visitation. Elaine wanted this to be a celebration of her life so please wear bright colors, tell stories and leave with a smile on your face. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
