Patricia “Patty” Louise (Charland) Jones passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, July 28, 2022 in Brockton, MA. She was 72 years of age.
Patty was born and raised in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School. She met her late husband, Donald Jones and moved to Brighton, CO where they would soon wed and welcome their son, Donald (Donny) Jones II. After two years, they decided to return to Massachusetts but fate had other plans. Donald would soon pass and Patty then moved to Wells, Maine to be closer to her parents and raise her son, now as a single mother. She would never remarry, stating that her late husband was her soul mate. She raised Donny while working in the cafeteria at Wells School District and as a hotel housekeeper in the summers. In 1996, she proudly enrolled her son in a prestigious arts academy to pursue his talents as a pianist, and relocated to Brockton to be nearer to her sisters and brother.
Patty’s favorite place was anywhere near the ocean. She enjoyed the smell of the salty sea air, fresh haddock and clam chowder, diving into the waves during her many trips to Florida, and cruising on the lake in Georgia. Always one to face challenges with the strength of iron and the grace of an angel, Patty enjoyed gardening flowers and tomatoes, handcrafting jewelry, and was an avid lotto and scratch-off player. Never one to put herself first in any situation, she also loved trying to find “unclaimed” money for people. Above all else, she was a loving mother, beaming with pride for her son, and proud to be “Nana” to her granddaughter Allie.
Patty was the devoted mother of Donald (Kate) Jones II, adoring grandmother of Allie Jones, caring sister of Cindy (Clint) Howard, Phil (Debbi) Charland, Jayne St. Arneault, Suzanne Charland and beloved aunt to her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Jones, parents Robert and Francis Charland, sisters Cathy Lynch, Mary Ann Florio, brother Robert Charland Jr., and brother-in-law Donald Lynch.
A private celebration of life will be held for the family and close friends on Friday, Sept 30 at a location to be announced. As Patty loved the sea, her ashes will be spread in the ocean in Wells Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mass General Hospital’s Thoracic Surgery Department in Patty’s name. This department saved her life in 1997 when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and gave her another 25 years to make memories.
