Obituary



William C. “Bill” Tanner passed away suddenly while vacationing in New Jersey. He was 73. Born and raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen, (Dwyer) Tanner. After completing high school, Bill served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, among his many decorations, he was awarded four bronze stars with his Vietnam Service Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, Bill began a long career with the Boston and Maine Railroad, managing logistics and accounts in the shipping department. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, Bill just observed the 50th anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife Vida. In his younger years Bill enjoyed bowling and always looked forward towards fishing, especially at his summer home in Raymond New Hampshire. He was devoted to his family eand enjoyed time with his relatives and many friends.


The beloved husband of Vida (LoPiccolo) Tanner, bill was a devoted father to Lynette LaForge and her husband Philip, and Lori Lewis. He was a loving grandfather to Brianna, Philip, Olivia, Will, Vincent and Nicole. Bill was also the dear brother of the late Joseph Tanner.

Bill’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday, August 5th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family on Thursday 4 – 8 PM.
