Adua (Castellano) Cariello, 83, of Londonderry, NH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Adua was born on August 13, 1938 in Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, Italy, a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Rosa (Aquilone) Castellano.
When she was only 16 years old, Adua immigrated to Brooklyn, NY, where she met her beloved husband of 65 years, Anthony Cariello. Adua and Anthony created a beautiful life focused on their family, including six children, twenty grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Together, they built two houses, first in Lake Carmel, NY, and, after retirement, in Londonderry, NH, where they moved to be closer to loved ones.
Being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was Adua’s greatest joy. She loved a full house and enjoyed cooking authentic Italian meals for her family and friends. Adua was a talented seamstress and crocheter; you never left her house without being offered either her delicious food or beautiful handiwork. Adua loved nature and was always happy to spend hours outside in her garden growing vegetables and flowers. Adua’s faith was an important part of her life. After moving to Londonderry, Adua joined the St. Jude’s Women’s Guild, where she met many loving and supportive friends. Adua was a kind, generous, witty and loving person. She was curious about the world, interested in people, and quick to laugh. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Anthony Cariello; her four sons, Frank Cariello and wife Carolyn, Vincent Cariello and wife Barbara, Anthony Cariello and wife Lisa, and Joseph Cariello and wife Carrie; her two daughters, Elaine McSpedon and husband Jack, and AnnMarie Cariello and husband Jim; 20 grandchildren: Anthony, Jenny, Chrissy, Will, Michael, Anna, Megan, John, Claire, Emily, Bobby, Michael, Owen, Anthony, Joseph, Joey, Jack, Charlie, Rose, and Henry; and one great grandchild, Hayden. She is also survived by her brother, Carmine Castellano; two sisters, Annunziata Masullo and Theresa Montemarano and husband Carmine; as well as nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. She was predeceased by a sister, Maria Melissa.
