William F. Flannery, 82

William F. Flannery, age 82, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret E. (Freeman) Flannery, who died on January 10, 2013.
Born in Boston, MA on July 24, 1940, he was a loving son of the late William F., Sr. and Estelle (Capozzi) Flannery.
Bill grew up in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston. During the time of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country for four years as a member of the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his education, receiving a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and later a master’s degree from Babson College.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Flannery proudly worked as a Business Education Teacher at North Attleboro High School. He next worked for the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services as a math teacher and later in life, at H & R Block.
A resident of Mansfield for the past forty-nine years, Bill was an actively involved communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and formerly served on the Board of Education at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School.
Bill volunteered his assistance with Boy Scouts and was a former member of the Mansfield American Legion Post #198. He loved spending time with family and friends and was an avid New England sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his devoted son Matthew F. Flannery and his wife Susan of Milford. He was the cherished grandfather of Caitlin E. Flannery and Ian C. Flannery, both of Milford. He was the dear brother of Joseph Flannery and his wife Carol of Missouri, Patricia Flannery and her husband Charles Gibson of Missouri and the late Margaret Flannery, Mary Caira, David Flannery and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 3rd at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:30 P.M. at the Massachusetts Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours are omitted and due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, William’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. BOX 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
