Dorothy Eugenia “Jean” Colley Medford, 94, of Tifton passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Medford will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery in a private family interment. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 31, 2022, in the First Baptist Church Social Hall immediately following the service.
Mrs. Medford was born August 8, 1927 in Albany. She was the daughter of the late Inez Farr Colley and Homer VanBuren Colley. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harmon Crum “H. C.” Medford; four sisters, Leola Peterson, Wynelle Kelty, Orlena Frazier and Zeph Rogers; and three brothers, Van Buren Colley, Mitchell Colley and Alec Colley, She was a homemaker and took great pride in preparing healthy and nutritional meals for her family, always seeking new recipes. She was very involved with raising her three daughters and exposing many activities to them, including GA's and 4-H. She was a member of the History Committee for the Tifton Heritage Book. Her hobby was ancestry, researching for 44 years and accumulating volumes of information for the branches of her and H.C.'s families. She was a graduate of Tift County High School and a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church, She loved the Lord and was a shining light for Him. She was a great prayer warrior, sharing her faith with many and she will be missed.
Mrs. Medford is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beth Medford-Rhymes and husband Tom of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Jan Medford Johnson of Tift County and Lynn Medford McDonald and husband William of Tifton: five grandchildren, Milton Johnson of Tifton, Celeste Johnson Wishing and her spouse Kyle of Atlanta, Jonathan Rhymes and his spouse Alison of St. Petersburg, Florida, Medford McDonald of Tifton and his fiancee Jamie Wilson of Hawkinsville, and Miles McDonald of Atlanta: three great grandchildren, Nayara Wishing, Reef Wishing and Arlo Rhymes; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
