Obituary

Capt. Ned M. Emmons, U.S.M.C., Ret., 94, of New Bedford died May 14, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the widower of Ruth E. (Sullivan) Emmons.
He was born in Thorntown, Indiana, the son of the late Ernest and Ana (Johnson) Emmons.
Mr. Emmons was a United States Marine Corps veteran of twenty-eight years serving in various campaigns, World War II in the Pacific Theatre, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of numerous awards and citations including: the Second Nicaraguan Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medals, the American Campaign Medal, United Nations Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, American Defense Award with three service stars, Navy Marine Presidential Unit Citation with four service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with four service stars, Korean Service Medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Ribbon Combat with "V" authorized while serving with a motor transport company during operations against the enemy in Korea from September 18, 1950 to June 19, 1951.
Mr. Emmons leaves one daughter, Maryellen Emmons, formerly Pentecost, of New Bedford; one grandson, Atty. William B. Pentecost, Jr., Major U.S. Army Reserves, JAG, of Pittsburgh, PA; one sister, Marietta Hultz of Port Orange, FL and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 18th at 10 AM in St. Julie Billiart Church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday, May 17th from 3-6 PM.
