Obituary

DORCHESTER-----Richard Paul Carter, 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 24, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born on March 24, 1932, in Plymouth, NH, he was the son of the late Ernest and Arlene (Barnett) Carter.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Dorchester. In 2020, Richard was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane as Dorchester’s Most Senior Citizen. Richard was enlisted in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956, serving during the Korean War. He was a proud veteran. Richard was a member of The American Legion in Plymouth, NH for 58 years and was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

At a young age, Richard began logging with a work horse. Throughout his life, Richard drove a film truck delivering films to theaters, worked on the construction of the New York State Thruway, drove a Yuke dump truck during the construction of Interstate 93, and worked mining at local mines. Until retirement, Richard and his late brother, Albert (Ab), owned and operated Carter Brothers Logging.

Richard served as the Forest Fire Warden in Dorchester for sixteen years.

Richard enjoyed carving various wooden bowls, canes and lamps. He enjoyed gardening, camping trips with friends and visiting with his best buddies.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Cindy Sleeper, of Dorchester, Cheryl Carter of Concord and Lisa Carter, of Dorchester; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Sleeper, Brittany Sleeper, Michelle Sanborn, and Heather Sanborn; 2 great-grandchildren, Hailee Adjutant and Kaitlin Adjutant; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Richard is predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Marjorie (Martel) Carter and by his brothers, Ernest Carter and Albert (Ab) Carter.

Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

Memorial donations in Richard's name may be made to one’s favorite charity.
