Margaret (Peggy) Sherk, our sweet mom, died on July 19, 2022 from lung cancer. She was born to Henry and Sara Kroos of Elmore, Ohio, in November 1936. In 1954, she graduated from Harris- Elmore schools. After earning her teaching credential from Bowling Green State University, Mom taught Health and P.E. at Genoa High School. In 1958, she married the love of her life, John Bruce Sherk. They spent the next 62 years devoted to one another. In the summer of 1965, they moved to Ventura. When all three kids were of school age in the early 1970’s, Mom started working at McDonald’s on Telegraph Road. She very much enjoyed working with the women she made friends with on the day shift and the young workers who came and went as the years passed. Mom retired from McDonald’s in the mid-1990s. Our parents loved to travel. Yosemite and Hawaii were their favorite vacation destinations. Mom enjoyed reading, cheering on the Dodgers and Lakers, and taking loving care of us. Her favorite pastime was taking care of her gorgeous yard. She cultivated three different varieties of plumeria, some of which are over twelve feet tall. After trimming them, Mom put the branches out in front of the house to share with others. Scores of houses in our neighborhood and beyond are growing plumeria from Mom’s garden.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother. Surviving to cherish her memory are daughter Joanie, sons Steve (Claudia) and Jeff (Valerie), sister Barbara, and brother Kenn. Also surviving are her grandchildren Andrew (Rae), Miranda (David), Kiriana (Brandon), and Melia (Nick), along with nine great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. There is also a little doxiepoo, Gracie, who will miss her grandma terribly. The family would like to thank doctors Robert Warwar and Fred Mortezavi and their staffs for their excellent, tender care of our mother. We also greatly appreciate Assisted Home Health and Hospice Care services for their highly efficient and devoted service to Mom and the whole family. Desiree and Shari were particularly helpful, sweet, and beyond awesome. In lieu of a formal service, the family has posted a guest book and invites family and friends to post remembrances at https://reardonfuneral.com/Obituaries. Those who so desire may make memorial donations to Wounded Warriors or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
