Obituary

Rev. Robert Baber Beggs, 73, of West Berrien passed away Monday, July 25, 2022, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Community Church in West Berrien with the Rev. Garvie Nichols, Jr. officiating. Mr. Beggs will be laid to rest at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Berrien County with the Rev. Gary Zeigler officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

B. J. Wheeler, Stephen Wheeler, Jonathan Wheeler, Perrin Wheeler, Robert Allen Beggs, Harrison Gibbs and Logan Gibbs will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Harnage, Ronnie Hall, Tim Hall, Lynn Shaw, Mike Beggs, Rodney Pirkle, Don McEachin and Freddy Yarbrough.

Born June 7, 1949, in Tift County, Mr. Beggs was the son of the late Fred Beggs and Ethlene “Billie” Willis Beggs. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Hall Beggs, who passed away on June 15, 2022; five brothers, James Rudolph Beggs,
Freddy Beggs, Anthony Eugene “Andy” Beggs, George H. Beggs and Tommy Beggs; and two sisters, Nina Sue Beggs McEachin and Elizabeth Lynn Beggs Cronia.

Before retiring, Mr. Beggs was a pilot and worked for the Civil Air Patrol and the Georgia Forestry Commission, as well as Adel Steel and Vulcan Steel. He also owned and operated Beggs Welding Service for 12 years and worked at Kelley Manufacturing Company in Tifton and Georgia Industrial Maintenance in Valdosta as a Welding Shop Foreman. He was also the Pastor of Community Church.

Mr. Beggs is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Cindy Beggs of Omega; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lawanna Beggs of West Berrien and Lori Ann and B. J. Wheeler of Ray City; one brother, Mike Beggs of Sautee; one sister, Irma Ree Beggs-Brown of Cumming; five grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Samantha Morgan of Austin, Texas, Stephen and Teresa Wheeler of Douglas; Jonathan and Nicole Wheeler of Ashburn, Perrin Wheeler and Isabella Wheeler, both of Ray City; and four great-grandchildren.
