Theofilos Hatzopoulos, 86, of Worcester, died Wednesday, July 13th while visiting his hometown in Hrisohorafa, Greece. His wife of 52 years, Dorothea (Tasoudis) Hatzoploulos died in 2011. He is survived by his son, John Hatzopoulos and his wife, Nicole of Worcester; his daughter, Susan, Gergos and her husband, Theofilos of Milford; his sister, Maria Engonidis and her husband, Jordon of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren, Dorothea and Theofilos Hatzopoulos, Catherine Tsantakis and her husband, Kostas, Anthony Gergos and his wife, Kanella and Theodore Gergos and his fiancée, Jenna Nikolopoulos and two great-grandsons, Stavro and Theofilos Tsantakis. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Athanasios and Dimos Hatzopoulos.
He was born in Hrisohorafa, Greece the son of Ioannis and Sultana Hatzopoulos, and had owned and operated a restaurant before retiring. He was a long-time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton Alexander the Great, and enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his concern for others, especially their health and happiness. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
His funeral is Tuesday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be held from10:00 a.m. until the time of the service in the Cathedral on Tuesday. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with arrangements.
