James V. Oates, 82, of Londonderry, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 21, 2022 at Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH.
James was born in Boston, MA on April 25, 1940, to the late Victor and Mildred Oates. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Justine (Kennedy), daughter Samantha and her husband John of Belchertown, MA and son Victor and his wife Jill of Hudson, NH. He is also survived by five cherished grandchildren: Trevor, Brandon, Lucas, Annalise, and Eleanora and his sister, Carolyn Moore, of Spring TX
He graduated from Brighton High School and Bentley College. He proudly served in the US Navy, having deployed at sea on the Destroyer USS Mitscher. He then worked as an accounting professional for 50 years, continuing to be an active tax preparer at the time of his passing.
He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and New England Patriots. He loved cooking his famous turkey dinner on Master’s Sunday, his favorite day of the year. He was blessed to travel the world with Justine, especially a trip of a lifetime to China in 2016. He enjoyed watching old game shows and never missed an episode of the Price Is Right. He was a voracious reader, especially books about History.
Visiting hours will be held at Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd, Londonderry, NH on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 9 - 11am. Mask usage is optional. Burial to follow, 2:30pm at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
