Clotilde “Clo” Holmes, 95 of Ventura, CA., passed away at home after a short illness on January 28, 2022. Clo was born in Inglewood, CA. to Nieves and Epimenia Segura on June 10, 1926. She graduated from Santa Paula High School and went on to a career in law enforcement, becoming the first, duly sworn policewoman, in both Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
After a two-year marriage, she was left to raise her two children alone. This shaped the balance of her life as she committed herself to her children, to the exclusion of any other personal interests or goals. Clo was a strong believer and her faith in God guided her in providing for her children’s upbringing. As her children grew, Clo left the career she loved to transition into medical support services to provide a more consistent schedule and security for her children.
After her retirement, Clo enjoyed many years working in her garden, long walks to the beach and was an avid reader. In her final years, she was cared for in her home of 60 years by her son, Fred.
Clo is survived by her son, Fred Holmes, Ventura, her daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Russ Newell, Ventura, one grandson and great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception from Noon to 3:00 PM. Arrangements are under direction of JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
