We are saddened to share the news of the passing of James “Jim” Asselin Sr., 62, of Springfield, MA. James passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on July 19th, 2022. Jim was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston on June 7, 1960. His parents moved the family to Springfield, MA in 1962 which has been his beloved home until his passing. Jim was a devoted husband to Ann, whom he met in college. They had a wonderful loving marriage and his pride and joy were his three children. He was a proud graduate of Cathedral High School, class of 1978. He went on to graduate from Western New England College in Springfield and received his Masters of Public Administration from American International College in Springfield, MA. After completing undergraduate studies, he worked for the City of Springfield for many years and most recently was the Director of Commercial Lines for CHI Insurance. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Ann (Grondin), his children, Timothy (wife Sara), Elizabeth (husband John) and James Jr. and his grandchildren, Ellison “Ella” Mullin, “baby boy Mullin” on the way and his “four-legged grandson” Choptank. James also leaves behind his father and mother, Raymond B. Asselin Sr. and Janet (Keough) Asselin, his mother-in-law, Ruth Grondin and siblings, Raymond Asselin Jr. (wife Robin), Joseph Asselin Sr. (late wife Melinda), Maria Serrazina (late husband Jack), and Christopher Asselin (wife Merylina). He was a beloved uncle to Joseph Jr., Patrick (wife Chloe), Alex Serrazina, Cassie, Nik Serrazina (Molly), Daniel, Janet and Jackie. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St, Springfield followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee.
