On July 19, 2022 Catherine Mary (Furey) Bates peacefully passed away at the age of 94 after a brief illness. Catherine was born to Agnes (Murtagh) Furey & John Furey in Lynn on November 6, 1927. She was a loving wife to the late John Peter Bates with whom she had seven beautiful children.
She is survived by her daughters Susan and her husband James Gray of Greenville, ME, Janet and her husband Barry Eisenberg of N. Andover, and Nancy Gage of North Port, FL; her sons John J. Bates of Franklin, Peter and his wife Martha Bates of North Kingston, RI, Brian Bates of Mims, FL, and Mark and his wife Barbara Bates of Uxbridge.
Catherine is also survived by her sisters Agnes “Bess” Cullinane of Canton, and Theresa “Terry” Corcoran of Belmont; her brother Fr. John Furey, C.Ss.R. of The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston. She leaves behind her beloved twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, and friends.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband John P. Bates, brother Thomas Furey and sister Ellen Driscoll.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of profound faith who loved her family, her church, and her Irish heritage.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday July 25, 2022 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village Street in Medway on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
