Gordon Wescott Hall, 84, died on July 11, 2022 at his home in Hingham, MA, of multiple myeloma.
He grew up in Weston, CT, the son of Robert Wescott Hall and Virginia Scobie Hall. He lived in Norwell and Plymouth, MA and Venice, FL before moving to Linden Ponds in Hingham in 2015.
Gordie graduated from the Gunnery School (now the Frederick Gunn School) and Colby College. At Gunnery he played varsity football, basketball, and baseball, serving as captain of the baseball team his senior year. He served in the US Army from 1962-1964 and the US Army Reserves from 1964-1968. In 2000 he retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after 34 years as a personal sales representative.
In 1966 he married Sally Hemenway and together they raised three sons in Norwell. He was a quiet, steady man with a dry sense of humor. A lover of sports and deeply dedicated to his family, he never tired of driving his sons to their sporting events and watching them on the tennis court, at swimming pools, on the basketball court, and on the soccer field. On weekends he would usually be found outdoors: chopping down trees in his woods for firewood, tending to the yard, or simply sitting enjoying nature. In retirement, Gordon enjoyed playing golf daily, morning coffee with friends, winters in Florida, Block Island, and relaxing with his dog. He and Sally took many memorable trips together, including a transatlantic cruise on the QE2, a cruise to Australia on the Queen Mary, and a cruise around the Scottish Highlands and Islands.
Gordon is survived by his wife Sally and his sons, Andrew (Cheryl) of Boulder, CO, David (Rachelle), of Boston, MA, and Peter (Jaclyn) of Hoboken, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Trevor, Charles, Olivia, Juliann, David Jr and Hadley Hall, two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Martha Chase. He will be deeply missed by his family.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 on October 23, 2022 at United Church of Christ, 460 Main St, Norwell. Donations may be made to UCC Norwell, PO Box 501, Norwell, MA 02061, any animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
