Obituary



Thomas Michael Carey, 84, of Bellingham died July 14 in Brigham & Women’s Hospital . He was the husband of Carolyn (Whittaker) Carey for the past 60 years.

Born in Framingham, MA January 18,1938, the son of the late Edmund and Catherine (Hughes) Carey. Tom was raised an in Natick and was a graduate of Natick High School where he played on the football, baseball, and basketball teams. He also received a B.S. in management from Boston College where he was a member of the ROTC drill team serving as commander his senior year.

Following graduation, Tom served in the Army with tours in Korea, San Francisco, Nuremburg, Germany, Kansas, Vietnam, and Oklahoma. After leaving the Army, with the rank of captain, Tom returned to school at Boston State College earning a master’s degree in education. Tom taught math and science at the Adams Middle School in Holliston for 29 years until his retirement.

Tom was the golf coach at Holliston High School for many years and led the team to several state championships.

Thomas was an active member of St. Blaise Parish in Bellingham for 53 years. He was a Eucharistic minister, served on the parish council, sang in the choir, and was on the bingo team.

In retirement Tom played for two golf leagues helping to manage the Senior League. He also was a member of three bowling teams.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Anne E. Carey of Hopkinton and Michael T. Carey and his wife Annie of Natick and his grandchildren, Emily Carey of Natick and Nicholas Carey of Lawrenceville, GA
He is also survived by his brother-in-law John Whittaker and his wife Joan of Scituate and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 21 in St. Blaise Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Bellingham.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 20 in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway from 5-8 PM.
