Obituary

CHICOPEE – Donald J.J. Turgeon, 82, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 14, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Berlin, New Hampshire on December 27, 1939, the beloved son of the late Lucien J. and Madeleine A. (Grondin) Turgeon. He moved to Chicopee as a child with his family and was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Saint George Elementary School in Chicopee and Precious Blood High School in Holyoke and had lived in Chicopee for most of his life. He served his country in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Airman Second Class. He furthered his education and received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He began his employment as a Police Officer with the Chicopee Police Department in 1962 and retired on January 8, 1995 as a Deputy Police Chief. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus and the Bishop Joseph F. Maguire Assembly 2670, both in Chicopee. He also was a member of the Tigers Athletic Club in Chicopee. His family was his most prized possession and he loved spending time with all of them. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Jeannine B. (Plouffe) Turgeon. They were married on November 8, 1958 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness. He also leaves his four loving children and their spouses, Catherine A.M. Grenier (Christopher), Michelle L.M. Cyran (Anthony), Donald J.J. Turgeon, Jr. (Robin), and Susan M.M. Kurpaska (Lawrence), all of Chicopee; his eight cherished grandchildren and 15 cherished great grandchildren; his dear sister, Joanne M.A. Wyman and her husband, John, of Hendersonville, NV; his niece and two nephews, his cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Turgeon and Plouffe families. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to his Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
