Thomas O. Mahon, 99 of Ojai, California passed away on July 13, 2022 at home in Ojai. Tom was born in Glen Ellen, IL to Thomas and Florence Mahon on February 22, 1923.
Tom graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on D-day, June 6, 1944. After returning from deployment to Europe, where he earned Purple heart and Bronze Star medals, he married Mary Elberfeld. Together, they raised eleven children. After leaving the military, Tom joined Mobil Oil and earned an MBA degree from New York University. After two years in Mexico City with Mobil, he and the family moved to Ojai to be closer to family in 1957. Tom owned Tom Mahon Chevrolet and became part of the Ojai Planning Commission. He found his career niche in 1970 when he joined the Ventura County Auditors office. He quickly rose to the position of Assistant Auditor Comptroller, a position he held for many years before being appointed and then elected to the position Auditor Comptroller. Before retiring at age 77, he was careful to employ a lesson he learned in the Military, "train your replacement."
His friends and family knew him as a kind and gentle man who was respectful of others and had a generous disposition. His grandchildren knew him as a strong and loving Papa who could always be counted on for a treat when they went with him to the store.
Tom is survived by his children Tom, Mary, Nancy, Carol (Brian), Henry, Sheila, Lisa (Gary), Cindy (Richard), Chris (Glenda), Kate, and Jean, as well as fifteen grand children and 10 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a Most Holy Rosary to be recited at 9:45 am on Friday July 29, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Ojai, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:15 am. A reception will follow Mass. Interment will be held at 1:45 pm in Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura.
