Obituary

CHICOPEE – Augustine M. “Tina” (Abel) Fredette, 88, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was called safely home on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home in South Hadley on May 19, 1934, the beloved daughter of the late August J. and Jennie S. (Bosky) Abel. She graduated from South Hadley High School in 1952. She was employed by the City of Chicopee as a Paraprofessional and worked at the Streiber, Bowie and Belcher Elementary Schools. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Armand R. Fredette who was known to everyone as “Roland” or “Fred”. They were married on February 14, 1953, at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church in South Hadley and were blessed with over 69 years of happiness together. She also leaves her eight loving children, Lawrence Fredette and his wife, Roxanne, of Chicopee;United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant John S. Fredette (who was called home on May 4, 1990) and her loving daughter-in-law, Julie Fredette of Minnesota;Mark Fredette and his wife, Roxanna, of Somers, CT; Kathleen Fredette of Chicopee; Laurie DuBois and her husband, Brant, of Chicopee; Maria Sullivan and her husband, John, of West Springfield; Thomas Fredette and his husband, Andrew Norton, of Colchester, CT; Christina Bracci and her husband, Brian, of East Longmeadow; and Tricia Garand and her husband, Adam, of South Hadley; her 21 cherished grandchildren and 21 beloved great grandchildren; her dear brother, Paul Abel of Florida; her dear brother in law, Robert E. Foisy of Chicopee. She was also predeceased by her beloved son, John Michael Fredette, who was called home in 1953; her dear brother, Robert Abel and his wife, Lucille; and her two sisters-in-law, Peggy Abel and Odell “Sis” Foisy. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 9:00 am till 11:00 am. Her funeral will begin immediately after at 11:00 am. Both will be held at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street. Her Burial will follow the Prayer Service at Saint Rose Cemetery, 226 Granby Road, South Hadley, MA 01075.
