Dr. Richard J. Joyal, Sr., 90, of Manchester, died May 12, 2006 after a period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester, October 27, 1915, to State Senator John Joyal and Margaret Maloney as one of eight siblings whom he survived.
He was educated in Manchester Catholic Schools, attended Boston Latin School, the University of New Hampshire and St. Anselm College after serving in the US Army in Europe in five wartime theaters through Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge during World War II .
He graduated from Tufts Medical School where he earned his doctorate in medical dentistry in 1952 and practiced dentistry in Manchester until 1987.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Ruth King Joyal of Manchester; three children, Attorney Richard J. Joyal, Jr. of Manchester, Monica Joyal of Derry, NH, and Ruth Joyal-Morrison of Hooksett; four grandchildren, Michael Joyal Morrison, Kelsey Joyal Morrison, both of Hooksett, Eric Joyal and Ethan Joyal, both of Manchester.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday May 16, 2006 at St. Pius X Church, 575 Candia Rd., Manchester. Burial was private in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
