Susan Lillian Dunleavy was born on December 21st, 1969, in the city of Dorchester. Susan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on July 9th, 2022, after her battle with cancer.
Loving mother of Sean Michael Egan Jr. and Rhiannon Cecelia Egan of Dorchester. Loving daughter of late John and Lillian Dunleavy of Dorchester. Loving wife of late Sean Egan Sr. of South Boston. Loving sister of John Dunleavy and his wife Jane of Weymouth, William Dunleavy of Dorchester, Janet Norcross and husband Robert of Newton. The late James Dunleavy and late wife Kimberly of New Hampshire. Great Aunt of Noah and Braeden. Survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
Susan spent her childhood years living in Dorchester. During these formative years she was taught the value of family, love, acceptance and generosity.
Susan dedicated her life to her children, because family always came first. Those who knew Susan were naturally drawn to her beautiful personality and her selflessness. Susan had many great friends and family whom she travelled with, she cherished all the memories she made. Summer was her favorite season, she loved the smell of the ocean and would find serenity at the beach.
Susan loved hosting family gatherings at her home, where everyone was welcome. She loved to make people happy, through laughing or even compliments. She loved dancing and expressing herself through art and music. Her vast knowledge of history had no comparison, she could turn anyone into a history buff with her fantastical storytelling. She always made the most of her life by fitting in quality time with family and friends on top of all the stressors of life, while she always was the person you could go to for a break from the world.
Susan is a retired City of Boston school teacher of 25 years and devoted herself to early childhood education. Graduate of Quincy College with an Associates of Early Childhood Education and Graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science. Susan impacted so many lives through her teaching career and always instilled self-confidence, acceptance and was dedicated in ensuring she set her students up for success in their future endeavors.
One of her favorite quotes was “You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important.” This was because of the message behind the quote. She wanted everyone to realize their self-importance because Susan truly believed everyone had a purpose to fulfill in life. It brought her happiness to see others succeed, she was truly a great mother, mentor and friend. She will be truly missed and her memories will forever be in our hearts.
Visiting hours will be held at 4-8 pm on July 14th, 2022 at Casper Funeral Home located at 187 Dorchester Street in Boston. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 15th, 2022 at St. Monica Parish in South Boston at 10AM. All are welcome to attend. In memory of Susan, we ask that donations be made to her children.
