Obituary

Elva Marie (Westphal) Mullen, 95, of Anderson passed away on July 11, 2022 at Primrose Memory Care following an extended illness.

She was born on July 20, 1926 in Climax, Michigan to Charles and Anna (Coburn) Westphal. She was class valedictorian at Climax High School in 1943. She returned to school at the age of 40, where she earned her associate degree in nursing from Purdue University in Indianapolis. She worked as a registered nurse at St. John’s from 1970-1975 and in the orthopedic department from 1975- 2015 at St. Vincent’s on 86th Street in Indianapolis. In 2010, she received the Indy Star Nurse of the year for Compassion. She loved being a nurse and was in the Orthopedic Nursing Association.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She enjoyed taking walks on the beach in Pompano Beach, Florida where she wintered for many years. She loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her two daughters, Barb (Mike) Lindzy of Anderson and Cheryl (Tommy) Wood of Sun City West, Arizona; a stepson, William (Sandi) Mullen of Clayton and family; seven grandchildren including Jim Lindzy, Jenny (Tim) Church and Nancy (Doug) Branham; 17 great-grandchildren including Amber Lindzy, Clayton Lindzy, and Jade Lindzy, Victor Chuck, and Sami Chuck and family; Her Trinity Episcopal Church families, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Mullen who died in 2001; a sister, Myra Fisher; a grandson, Scott Stabler; stepdaughter, JoAnn Strouse; and a goddaughter, Megan Michael Duncan.

A special thank you to Primrose Retirement and Memory Care for their excellent care and support and CARE Hospice especially Jesika and Rosie.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 am on Friday, July 15, 2022 in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis with Bishop William Smalley of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.

A visitation will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Episcopal Church in Anderson or Wheeler Mission.
