QUINEBAUG, CT – James C. “Curly” Mack, 93, a longtime resident, died Friday, July 8, 2022 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge in the presence of his family.
He leaves his daughter, Jane Ellen McCluskey and her husband Paul L. McCluskey and a granddaughter, Anna Carroll McCluskey, all of Melrose, MA; a niece, Jeanne Elby of Richmond, RI; a dear friend and caregiver, Denise Harkins of Thompson; and cousins. His first wife, Theresa (Alexandrowicz) Mack died in 1978 and his second wife of 20 years, Dorothy F. (Hawthorne) Mack, died in 2010.
He was born at home in Quinebaug on December 10, 1928, the son of James H. and Anna (Carroll) Mack and graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in North Grosvenordale in 1946. In his later years he lived in North Grosvenordale and then at Christopher Heights in Webster, MA.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a corporal, and was a life member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184.
Mr. Mack was a printer at Heffernan Press in Worcester for 26 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a communicant of Saint Stephen’s Church in Quinebaug and volunteered at the Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group (TEEG). He enjoyed reading, especially history, walking and gardening.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 23, in St. Stephen’s Church, corner of Rts. 131 & 197. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, North Grosvenordale. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:15 AM that morning in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
